Kids On Tuesday

This is a really cute Fall idea to do with kids!  They can go out and pick out their own leaves and come in a make this!  This is also a really neat way to preserve the colors of those gorgeous leaves you find out on your nature walks!  I have some friends that did this and put them in a picture frame!

Kids On Tuesday

Here is a fun craft to do with your siblings or to make for a class setting!  You can customize it for any occasion by designing the playing pieces!

Homemade Tic Tac Toe

You'll Need:
Foam Sheets of different colors
Scissors
Pen
Ruler
Glue Gun

Cut out a square and draw Tic Tac Toe lines on it.

Then draw an outline in another color.  It helped me to place the colored sheet over the playing board and drawing around the lines as shown below...

Cut out and glue.

Next create your playing pieces.  This is where you can make it into any occasion, like hearts for valentines day, crosses for Easter, presents for Christmas, etc...

And there you go!
Let the games begin!

Frugal Kids Craft & Game

Here is a fun and frugal craft and game to do with your siblings or a class!  All you need is paper, pen or pencil, and some sort of "treasure"!

Treasure Map / Hunt

I used to make these maps all the time when I was a kid.  I was VERY imaginative as a little girl (I guess I still am) and always doing stuff like this.

Anyway, that was free.  ;)
Take your paper and draw a map of your house, yard, classroom, etc... whatever you are using for the treasure hunt.
C'mon now, be creative!  Like if you are drawing a couch in your living room, draw it but then maybe put a tree on it, or give it a tail and a head and give it an imaginative name like Cozy Island, or the Lazy Boy Serpent.  Make it fun but not too easy, make it where they have to figure it out!

Now after you have it all drawn out here is the cool part!
Crumple it up, that's right, as tight as you can.  Now open it up fully.  Repeat crumpling and opening until the paper feels soft!  It can take quite a few times!  (If you want you can have your siblings help with this step ;)

Now that you have you're "old" looking treasure map hide the treasure!
It can be candy, little trinkets, or even Birthday presents if you choose to do this for a Birthday game!

Now, give the child the treasure map and let them go find it!  If it's your siblings you can just let them have at it while you go back to whatever you where doing!

Have a great weekend!

Frugal Kids Craft

Shoe Box Theater

What You'll Need:
A shoebox
Paper
Glue
Popsicle sticks
Scissors
Crayons or Markers

You'll need to do a little prep work.
Cut a slit in the bottom of the shoebox for the puppets to fit through.

And measure and cut a peice of paper to fit on the back of the box for the kids to draw a background.

Have the kids draw a background for the story they are going to do.  You can have them pick out their favorite Bible story or maybe you can have a Bible story picked out before hand for them to do.
Glue the background in the box.

Then have the children draw and color the characters.
They can be as simple as stick figures or if you can find print out Bible characters for them to color.

Cut them out and glue them to popsicle sticks.

And there you go!  :)

Kids on Tuesday

This is a simple craft that kids will LOVE doing!  No glue, no tape, no mess!  And it's really easy to prepare for.  Just paper and scissors!

Woven Paper Place Mats

All you'll need is...

Two different colors of construction paper
Scissors

1.  Cut one of the papers into 1 in. strips width wise.

2.  Then, take the other piece of paper, fold it in half and cut 1 in. strips from the folded side to within 1 in. of the ends, as shown below.

3.  Open it up.
4.  Take a strip of paper and weave it through, over, under, over, under...

5.  When you get to the end, push it tightly to one side.

6.  Then start a new strip but going the opposite of the first, under, over, under, over...

7.  Repeat steps 4. - 6. til there is no more room to weave.
And that's it!  :)

Kids on Tuesday

This is a craft I LOVED to do when I was younger!

Take a cereal box and cut out a square.

Have the child take colorful crayons and color in small areas til the whole page is covered.

Then, have them take a black crayon and color over the whole page.  It needs to be totally covered, no color showing through.

Next, take a paper clip and bend out an end so you have a point...

Now they can doodle on the black and the colors will show through!

Kids on Tuesday

"How many more days til Christmas?"
Have you heard this phrase before?  Maybe from your little siblings almost everyday of December?  :)
Or maybe you remember asking it yourself! ;)
I remember asking that question when I was younger.   I just couldn't wait til Christmas was here and when I was a kid I had a hard time keeping up with how many days there where left to go!
Here is a good craft to help answer that question for kids!  It's a fun easy craft and it helps you from having to count down the days for them!  :D
Jordan

<<<- Christmas Countdown Chain <<<-

You'll need:

12 strips of both red & green construction paper
1 yellow strip
Stapler

Take the yellow strip and have the child form a ring with it.  Staple the ends together.
Next take a red strip, loop it through the yellow ring and staple the ends.

Then do the same with a green strip on the red strip and so on forming a chain.

Find a place to hang it up, like on a door, wall, bedpost, etc..., having the yellow ring at the top.

Now for each day have the child break one chain off starting at the end opposite of the yellow one.  Yellow signifying Christmas day.
Then all they have to do to know how many more days til Christmas is to count the rings left on the chain!

Kids on Tuesday

Hey all!  I'm seeing a lot of new followers but don't know who to count them for!  So if you are a new follower make sure to leave a comment to tell me who invited you!

Here are just a few simple ideas of some fun Fall things you can do with your siblings or a class.

- Nature Scavenger Hunt -

Make a list of some Fall items that the kids can find in the area you have them in.  The child, or team that finds the most wins!  i love nature hunts because it helps the kids look and see things they normally wouldn't.

Here's some ideas:
Red Leaf
Yellow Leaf
Nut
Feather
Wooly Worm
Etc...

- Leaf Identification -

Have the children go out and find as many different kinds of leaves as they can.  No two looking alike.
Take them and lay them all out on the table, sorting them by kind if you get more than one.  Get a good tree identification book and have the kids help you look and find the trees the leaves belong to in the book.  It would be a great way for the children to learn their trees and what colors they turn in the Fall!

- Leaf Chain -

Have the kids go out and get a LOT of soft colored leaves.  Then show them how to sew them together like you would a popcorn or cranberry chain.
This would be really cute to hang somewhere for Thanksgiving!

Kids on Tuesday

I LOVED doing this craft when I was a little!  I would sit and make 5 - 10 of these at a time!  When I did it with my little brother last night I didn't realize he had never done it before!  He LOVED it, and he's 11!
Jordan

~ Butterflies~

Supplies:

-Kids Tempera Paint in 3 or more colors
-Paper
-Newspaper for messiness

Instructions:

Lay down some newspaper because it could get a little messy.  Then take the paper and fold it in half.

Next open up you paper and put a medium sized drop of each color of paint in the middle of the crease.

Then fold it back and push firmly, where the paint is, out toward the edges and all around.

And that's it!  Open the paper and see what neat design you made!

I love this craft because the design is different every time you do it!  After it's dry you can have the kids come back and draw on them to make them look more like what they see!  My little brother thought his looked like a butterfly so he put legs and antenna on it.  But sometimes they'll look like a face, a mask, an animal, anything!

Kids On Tuesday

Here is a fun Fall craft to do with your siblings, kids you babysit, or in a class setting!  It gets them, and you, out in nature to enjoy the Fall colors!
Jordan

~ Fall Wreaths ~

What You'll Need:
- Construction paper in Fall colors
- Colorful leaves
- Glue
- A pencil
- A lid or bowl to use for drawing a circle

Instructions:
First, have the child go out in the yard and pick up 15 to 20 colorful leaves.

Then have them pick out ther favorite Fall colored paper.  After that they can trace around the lid or bowl to make a circle in the middle of their paper.

Next have them arrange their leaves around the cirlce they've drawn on the paper.  They can even layer it if they want.

Then they can glue them in place.  A hot glue gun may be best for this, it will depend on the age of the child.  Just regular craft glue worked well for us.

After they are done glueing the leaves you can have them write something in the middle!  Like "Give Thanks", or a Bible verse, their name, etc...

And there you go!  :)
